Past daily of the Republic of Armenia (RA) writes as follows, in particular: According to our information, [PM] Nikol Pashinyan prefers that France build the new modular nuclear power plant in Armenia—with American loans.

According to the newspaper's sources, Pashinyan, who is participating in the Nuclear Energy Summit in Paris, discussed these matters with the French president, although there is no mention of this in the official statement.

It should be noted that at the summit, Nikol Pashinyan again announced: after the Metsamor nuclear power plant's lifespan expires, Armenia has decided to switch to small modular reactor technology. He also recalled that modular reactors require shorter construction times, the capacity can be expanded, which better meets the needs of Armenia's power grids.

The Armenian authorities are still evasive on the issue of the modular nuclear power plant and do not give a clear answer as to who they will entrust with the construction of the nuclear power plant. The main intrigue remains on reactors manufactured by which country Armenia will stop at. Pashinyan did not open parentheses from the conference podium either.

In Yerevan, US Vice President JD Vance had announced after the signing of the agreement that the RA and the US had completed negotiations on civil nuclear cooperation. After that, the RA authorities continued to insist that they were holding negotiations on the matter of the nuclear power plant with the US, RF [i.e. the Russian Federation], France, South Korea.

According to our source, the RA authorities are not particularly inclined to the option of the US building the [new] NPP [i.e. nuclear power plant]. First, it would be more expensive for the RA budget; secondly, the Americans have absolutely no experience with it; finally, political problems would also arise—understandably, especially with Russia.
