ISTANBUL. – Ex-FM Ahmet Davutoglu’s appointment as the new PM of Turkey will bring no change in Armenian-Turkish relations.
Pakrat Estukyan, who is editor of the Armenian section of Agos Armenian bilingual weekly of Istanbul, told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am, and with respect to the makeup of the new Turkish government, led by Davutoglu.
“It’s too early to talk about how the new government will look upon Armenian-Turkish relations, but I don’t have any hopes that something will change because former FM Davutoglu is PM now, and therefore current FM [and former Minister of European Union Affairs] Mevlut Cavusoglu will do what the PM says.
“The Armenian community [of Turkey] likewise has no great expectations, since nothing has changed overall,” he said.
In Estukyan’s view, even a change of Turkey’s PM and president will have no impact on Armenian-Turkish relations.
“Solely Azerbaijan can impact Armenia-Turkey relations. It decides on how Turkey should treat Armenia, since it has the oil trump cards in its hands,” the journalist concluded.
