Neither the relatives nor the attorneys nor even the Russian and the Israeli diplomatic missions were informed about the Belarusian prosecutor’s office decision regarding Russian Israeli blogger Alexander Lapshin.

Furthermore there is no information in Belarusian media about the adoption of the respective decision.

It is noted on the Facebook account of Lapshin, who is in custody in Belarus, that on Tuesday evening, Belarus Deputy Prosecutor General Alexey Stuk had made a “fair decision” about the need for extraditing the blogger to Azerbaijan.

“At any rate, the Belarus MFA has not confirmed the fact of the adoption of this decision,” the said Facebook entry also reads. “To put it mildly, the decision causes bewilderment, since entirely new circumstances have appeared in it, which were not in the extradition request.”

After his visits to Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) in 2011 and 2012, famous blogger Alexander Lapshin was “blacklisted” by Azerbaijan.

In June 2016, however, he paid a visit to Azerbaijan, but with a Ukrainian passport. Subsequently, he issued several articles criticizing the Azerbaijani authorities. Afterward, the Azerbaijani authorities issued an international search for this famous blogger.

And on December 15, 2016, he was detained in the Belarus capital city of Minsk, and based on this international search.

Baku demands his extradition to Azerbaijan, and for visiting Artsakh.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, however, spoke against such extradition.

The US Department of State also had reflected on this matter.
