YEREVAN. – Armenia has a great potential for solar energy development, President Serzh Sargsyan noted at Wednesday’s official opening of the Solar Energy Investment Forum, in capital city Yerevan.

In his words, Armenia, as a member in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), can be a unique bridge between Iran and the EAEU, and this fact creates opportunities for carrying out numerous investment projects.

“This is why we [i.e. Armenia] especially underscore renewable energy development (…), in the context of the strategy for the development of this sector [in the country],” Sargsyan noted, in particular. “According to the results of numerous expertise researches, Armenia has great potential for solar energy development.”

Sargsyan also stressed that the cost of the technologies of photovoltaic power stations—also known as solar parks—has reduced by about 80 percent, in recent years.

As per the Armenian President, opportunities are being created for world-renowned energy companies to participate in the respective tenders in Armenia and build large capacity photovoltaic power stations in the country.
