The adoption of the new Constitution of the Nagonro-Karabakh Republic (NKR) is the reflection of objective realias, NKR President Bako Sahakyan stated in an interview with Gazeta.ru.

''Its main objective is to raise the efficiency of public administration, improve   the checks and balances system of government branches, insure the main rights and freedoms of citizens, as well as further develop and strengthen the independent statehood,'' the President noted.

Referring to the names of the country, Sahakyan said: ''Our country is officially called the Republic of Artsakh or Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. ''Artsakh'' is a more ancient name: it has been used throughout several millennia.  The name ''Karabakh'' began to be used in the 14-15th centuries. But both of these names bear different components of our history, politics, geography and culture. Thus, they are equally used as the official name of our Republic.''

Responding to the question on the greatest disappointment and victory in the office of a president, Sahakyan noted that much has been done during these 10 years: During all this period the average annual GDP growth constituted 7-9 percent, a number of strategic projects having been implemented in almost all the spheres of the republic's economy, the President noted.  ''If in the past we used to be importers of electricity and  crops, currently we not only satisfy our needs but also have an opportunity to export both energy and crops. Almost all the sectors of economy of our country are dynamically developing,'' Sahakyan stated.

''As to the disappointments, I would prefer using the word ''pain'' instead of that concept. This is the pain of irretrievable losses. During these years, especially during the four-day April war in 2016, dozens of our servicemen, as well as the representatives of civil population died as a result of the treacherous actions of Azerbaijan. All the Artsakh citizens feel the same, but as the head of the country I feel this pain twice stronger. The bright memory of those who fell will forever remain in our hearts and the history of our people,'' he concluded.
