Iraqi parliament voted against upcoming referendum on Kurdistan’s independence set for September 25.

After the vote speaker of the parliament Salim Al Jaburi said the vote reflected lawmakers’ aspiration to keep Iraq united. The deputies voted to commit Prime Minister to take measures to preserve territorial integrity and conduct a serious dialogue for the normalization of relations between the authorities and regional leaders.

Kurdish MPs of the Iraqi parliament left the hall during the vote.
