Deaths caused by terrorism decreased by 13 percent from 2015 to 2016 and this is the second consecutive year that the number of deaths from terrorism have decreased,

Global Terrorism Index 2017 report issued by The Institute for Economics and Peace says there were 25,673 deaths in 2016, a 22 percent fall since the peak in 2014. However, ISIL was an exception to this trend and was subsequently the deadliest terrorist group in 2016 in killing 9,132.

According to the report, Iraq, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Syria, Pakistan and Yemen are the most dangerous from the viewpoint of terrorist threat. Top ten also includes Somali, India, Turkey and Libya.
