Ankara will appeal to the UN to annul US decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital, said Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, Anadolu reported.

According to the source, Turkish leader made a statement via teleconference to crowds gathered in Konya province.

“We will work for the annulment of this unjust decision firstly at the UN Security Council, and if a veto comes from there, at the General Assembly,” said Erdogan.

Palestine is recognized as a country by 137 nations, said Erdogan, adding that Islamic countries will create new funds to help Palestinian families.

Last week, US President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. The US decision was positively received in Israel and prompted negative reaction by many countries. People have started protesting all over the Muslim world, also in Israel.

As reported earlier, President Recep Erdogan called Israel a “terrorist state” and proposed to proclaim Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine in response to the US decision on Jerusalem.
