YEREVAN. – The decision was made, and the ruling coalition will formally nominate—ambassador to UK—Armen Sarkissian’s candidacy for the post of fourth President of Armenia.

Aghvan Vardanyan, Secretary of the “Armenian Revolutionary Federation [ARF]” Faction at the National Assembly (NA), on Friday told the aforesaid to reporters, after Sarkissian’s meeting at the NA with the MPs of coalition members Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) and ARF.

“The mechanism is such that the deputies of the two coalition member [parliamentary] factions nominate a presidential candidate,” said Vardanyan. “And that decision was made at the meeting.”

He added that Armen Sarkissian made a short and yet meaningful address at this meeting.

The ARF official informed that they already are collecting the signatures needed for nominating the RPA’s candidate for next President, and that about 60 signatures have been collected.

“The signature for one-fourth of the total number of the MPs is needed for nomination,” Aghvan Vardanyan added. “That is, twice more than enough signatures have been collected.”
