The summit of the CSTO leaders, scheduled for December 6, was canceled at the request of Armenia amid the elections campaign, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters.

Taking into account, in particular, the request of the Armenian side, as it was referring to the election campaign and upcoming snap elections that are scheduled for December 9 it was decided not to hold the CSTO Summit meeting on December 6, he said.

According to the Kremlin representative, Valery Semerikov remains the CSTO acting Secretary General.

Touching upon the candidacy of the new Secretary General, he noted that “there are several options.”

By the end of the year the new CSTO summit is unlikely to be held, Ushakov concluded.
