Five of the six member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) officially endorsed the candidacy of the head of the Security Council of Belarus Stanislav Zas for the post of Secretary General of the organization, Kommersant reported.

“In connection with contradictory media reports and the situation over the appointment of a new CSTO Secretary General, we clarify that the procedure for agreeing on the candidacy for the post of CSTO Secretary General from the Republic of Belarus Stanislav Zas was organized through his personal meeting with each head of the CSTO member state,” spokesperson for CSTO Vladimir Zaynetdinov said.

Zaynetdinov reported that from December 12 to December 20 such meetings were held with the presidents of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation. The heads of states he met supported his candidacy.

“The meeting with the acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia has been postponed to a later date,” he noted.
