Armenian citizen Artyom Grigoryan, 33, on Monday committed suicide at a temporary detention hall in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Police had detained him on December 20.

His relatives believe that the detention is linked to Grigoryan’s intention to return the 100,000-ruble (approx. US$1,450) he once had lent to an acquaintance, Nevskiye Novosti reported.

The Armenian man had left a suicide note, but his 26-year-old wife was not permitted to read it. In addition, the forensic medical examination bureau did not allow her to see his body.

Artyom Grigoryan is survived also by his one-year-old child.

The source in the local law enforcement agencies said that the man had committed suicide at this detention hall’s “blind” section which the video surveillance cameras do not cover.  

An investigation will be conducted into this incident.
