The plan to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, which the White House plans to unveil on Tuesday, on key issues is closer to the position of the Jewish state, the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal reported referring to its own sources.

These sources refused to go into detail, but drew attention to the fact that the US plan, set out on over 50 pages, on key topics is substantially close to Israel’s position. For example, the President Donald Trump's administration presupposes the sovereignty of the Jewish state over Jerusalem, including the areas that Palestinians want to make the capital of their future independent state. Washington is offering Palestine control over lands located on the periphery of East Jerusalem, the newspaper reported.

The status of Jerusalem is one of the key issues in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The Israelis occupied the eastern part of the city during the 1967 war. They insist that Jerusalem is the one and indivisible capital of Israel. Palestinians want to make the eastern part of the city the capital of their state. At the moment, only the US and Guatemala have embassies in Jerusalem (from May 14 and May 16, 2018, respectively).

According to newspaper sources, the US plan involves the exchange of land under the control of Israelis and Palestinians. Washington does not rule out that Palestinians may ultimately occupy 70-80% of the West Bank. This is less than what the Palestinians demand, but the Americans do not officially rule out the possibility of a Palestinian state. The Trump administration, unlike its predecessors, is not inclined to try to compromise on issues such as the right of Palestinians displaced by Israeli settlement activity to return or compensate.

The White House did not respond to the publication’s request for comment on this information.

Earlier, the US leader said that the White House will unveil a settlement plan on Tuesday at noon local time (20:00 Moscow time). Trump noted that Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu supported the American initiative, and the Palestinian side, according to the head of the Washington administration, will support him in the future. In addition, according to the president, the plan is supported by many Arab countries.

The economic part of the plan is known

At the end of June 2019, the White House published a document with the economic aspects of a plan to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. It provides, investments in Palestine and neighboring countries in the amount of $ 50 billion. On June 25-26, an international meeting was held in the capital of Bahrain on the economic aspects of the deal. The Palestinian Authority and several Arab countries boycotted the event, considering this approach inappropriate. The US has not yet announced the political component of the deal of the century.
