Armenian News - NEWS.am presents daily digest of top news as of 05.02.2020:

·       Armenian ex-MP Arakel Movsisyan’s son has been arrested over the case on the death of a soldier.

Davit Movsisyan is an accused-on-trial under the criminal case in the relation to the death of compulsory fixed-term serviceman, Private Vahram Avagyan and is being investigated, said Armenian IC’s spokesperson Naira Harutyunyan.

As reported earlier, he has been charged with breach of relations between servicemen not subordinated to each other that has carelessly entailed grave consequences.

Meanwhile, his attorney Ashot Apresyan said Davit Movsisyan doesn’t accept the charge brought against him.

Defense Minister Davit Tonoyan told Armenian News - NEWS.am there were 3 people detained under this case.

·       Former President of the Football Federation of Armenia and ex MP Ruben Hayrapetyan was apprehended Tuesday on suspicion of illegal possession of weapons and ammunition, police reported.

After being released from police where he was for three hours, Hayrapetyan said the current authorities want to intimidate him. According to him, he knows on whose behalf all this is being done.

He said that he has three arms - one pistol and two hunting rifles, noting that he has all documents for them.

According to his attorney, Amram Makinyan, he ruled out that Hayrapetyan has an illegal weapon or narcotic drug. Talking about the future actions, Makinyan said he will file a report to the Prosecutor General’s Office and demand that the police explain why they have frozen Hayrapetyan’s assets. According to him, Hayrapetyan’s apprehension is unlawful.

·       A completion of investigation has been announced for the second time into the criminal case involving Armenian parliament ex-speaker Ara Babloyan and Arsen Babayan, former  Armenian parliament deputy chief of staff. The case is already at the prosecutor's office, Arevik Khachatryan, Prosecutor General’s spokesperson told Armenian News - NEWS.am.

Babloyan is accused of usurping the powers of the Constitutional Court with a group of officials, as well as committing official fraud.

·       Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan has signed a decision, according to which Liparit Drmeyan has been appointed as head of the office of Armenia’s representative to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).

·       The city council of the Spanish town of Ontinyent recognized the Armenian Genocide on January 30.

Diario Armenia reports that the town hall of Ontinyent condemned the unprecedented crime committed against humanity by the Ottoman Empire and the current Turkish government’s policy of denial.

·       Armenia is ranked 12th with 14.4 per cent of growth in the list of the world’s fastest growing tourist destinations according to the latest statistics from the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO).

Myanmar tops the list with 0.2 per cent per cent increase in visitors.

Meanwhile, Armenia is ranked twelfth with 14.4 per cent along with South Korea, leaving behind Turkey and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

·       Death toll from the Chinese coronavirus has reached 493, with 24 555 confirmed cases, 3223 (13%) of which are in critical condition.

Meanwhile, forty people have been hospitalized in Armenia with suspected coronavirus. Twenty-six of whom have already been discharged, 14 remain in the hospital. None of them have been found to have a coronavirus, Armenian health ministry reported.

Earlier, second Armenian citizen has been evacuated from China by Russian aerospace forces. Deputy PM Tatyana Golikova said Russia is evacuating 147 people, among them: 10 Belarusian citizens, three Kazakh citizens, one Armenian citizen and one Ukrainian citizen.
