Armenia has ensured food safety. This is what Minister of Economy Tigran Khachatryan said during a discussion on the report on performance of the 2019 State Budget held as part of the joint session of parliamentary standing committees today.

According to him, as of today, food safety in the country is at a rather high level, domestic production of fruits and vegetables completely meets the demand, and it is even allowed to talk about the possibility of export. “The situation is the same for meat products, particularly lamb meat and beef, but in the case of poultry, domestic products cover only 1/4 of the demand, and in the case of pork — 2/3. Domestic resources are also insufficient for grains. However, taking into consideration the common market in the Eurasian Economic Union, this won’t create any problem. Armenia is a member state of the Eurasian Economic Union. This conveys confidence that Armenia won’t have problems with food safety,” Khachatryan said.
