I addressed the Prime Minister in parliament and called on reconsidering the decision of the Commandant’s Office in regard to freedom of assembly and providing people with the opportunity to express their protests or hold assemblies with face masks and by maintaining social distancing. This is what head of the Bright Armenia faction of the National Assembly Edmon Marukyan told reporters today, touching upon the initiative of the Prosperous Armenia Party to apply to the Constitutional Court and dispute the lawfulness of the ban on organizing assemblies during the state of emergency.

“This is a fundamental right and needs to be exercised. People hold protests in front of the government building every day. There is still no response from the Prime Minister. I believe it is necessary to apply to the Constitutional Court, if all measures are consumed. The Bright Armenia Party believes opposition parties can undertake the initiative to annul any action during the legal regime of state of emergency before applying to the Constitutional Court. We can collect signatures, convene a session and discuss the issue. If the Prosperous Armenia Party wants that, we can do it,” Marukyan said.
