In regard to the new requirements of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Armenia, the ban on entry of children with limited abilities into schools and escorting them to school will become a serious problem. This is what President of “Support” NGO Hunan Hunanyan said during a session held by the Public Council for Protection of the Rights of Disabled Persons adjunct to the Human Rights Defender today.

Hunanyan added that it will be extremely difficult to teach autistic children to wear face masks on their own.

Armenia’s Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan stated the need to solve systemic issues related to ensuring of the right of children with limited abilities to education and added that it is particularly necessary to work on a legislative regulation.

Head of the Division for Protection of the Rights of Disabled Persons at the Office of the Human Rights Defender Monica Sargsyan added that the absence of necessary programs for children with limited abilities to participate in the learning process without their parents’ help was also a problem during distance learning introduced as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

President of Bridge of Hope NGO Susanna Tadevosyan stressed the importance of pedagogues who would prepare these children to live independently.
