European Court [of Human Rights (ECHR)] has granted our petitions on the protection of the rights of military servicemen who were captured during the large-scale war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh [(Nagorno-Karabakh)] in the early morning of 27.09.2020, and decided to take urgent measure. human rights activist Artak Zeynalyan, former Minister of Justice of Armenia, on Monday wrote this on Facebook.

"Let us remind that the petitions have been submitted to the European Court on behalf of the family members of the Armenian captives, demanding applying urgent measure to protect the rights to life and freedom from inhuman treatment.

The European Court has requested documented information from the government of Azerbaijan on the fact of their being captured, whereabouts, conditions of detention, and medical service. The court has set a deadline of 27.11.2020 to provide the required information.

The court made the decisions recording that the government of Azerbaijan had not provided substantiated and credible information within the timeframe set by the Court,” Zeynalyan added, announcing the names of 17 Armenian captives.

On November 9, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a joint statement on a complete cessation of hostilities—which Azerbaijan had launched on September 27—in and around Artsakh.
