In Australia, children between the ages of 5 and 11 have been vaccinated with the coronavirus vaccine. This was announced by the country's health minister Greg Hunt on his Twitter page.

The vaccination campaign kicked off on Monday, January 10th.

Three million doses of the vaccine will be distributed to health centers ahead of the new school year, February 2, so 2.3 million children can receive their first dose, Hunt said. Children will receive two shots eight weeks apart.

To date, almost 19 million adults in Australia (over 92%) have been fully vaccinated against coronavirus infection, and more than 3 million of them have already received a booster dose of the vaccine. Moreover, among adolescents aged 12 to 15 years, more than 910 thousand people (74%) are fully vaccinated.

Pfizer's BioNTech has been selected for vaccination of children in Australia.
