Mikhail Bogdanov, the Russian president's special envoy for the Middle East and Africa and deputy foreign minister, said the ministry hopes to convince Turkey to abandon the new special operation in Syria, TASS reported.

According to the agency, the Russian Foreign Ministry expects a political and diplomatic solution to the issue.

"We continue contacts in a bilateral format with our Turkish colleagues. We continue to work with them," Bogdanov said.

Earlier it was reported that the Turkish army has fully prepared for the start of a cross-border operation in Syria and is awaiting a corresponding order from the command. In the course of the operation Ankara will focus on the use of its own military equipment or the modernized Turkish equipment.

The U.S. also earlier warned Turkey about the consequences of the operation in Syria, highlighting that the special operation against Kurds will undermine efforts to fight ISIS terrorists.
