Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi highlighted the importance of maintaining security on Iran's common border with Turkey, saying terrorism must be fought in all its manifestations, Press.TV reported.

The Iranian head made the remarks during a press conference with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Tehran on Tuesday. The Turkish president arrived in the Iranian capital Monday evening on a two-day visit at the invitation of Raisi.

Pointing to the countries' cooperation on security issues, Raisi said Tehran and Ankara discussed border security, the fight against terrorism, drugs and organized crime.

He said terrorism may have different names but it endangers the security of the region and must be taken into consideration.

"Two powerful countries can play a very important role in (strengthening) regional and international security," he added.

Erdogan, for his part, said it was important to fight terrorist organizations.

"We must confront terrorist organizations with all solidarity," he said.

Erdogan traveled to Tehran to attend Tuesday's trilateral summit with the presidents of Iran and Russia as part of the Astana peace process on Syria.
