As a result of the explosion in the Surmalu shopping center, toxic substances were released into the atmosphere, which can cause serious health problems, ecologist Knarik Grigoryan told NEWS.am.

According to her assessment, the substances emitted into the atmosphere will remain in the environment for a long time and may penetrate into the human body through the respiratory tract, as well as due to the consumption of agricultural products, and cause a number of diseases.

"These substances affect the human central nervous system and can also cause endocrine gland disorders," Grigoryan noted.

The expert advised to ensure a moist environment as much as possible and not to be outside for long periods of time.

"Contaminated areas should be flushed with water cannons. Debris and items collected from the scene should be transported in closed vehicles," the ecologist said.
