Chinese customs officers found a cockroach unknown to science in Guangdong province. It arrived in the country with a cargo of wood from French Guiana in South America, Xinhua news agency reported.

Customs officials handed over the found insect to scientists. Whether it was alive was not specified. Biologists did DNA testing and examined the cockroach's morphological features. They did not match any known creature.

It turned out that the insect was a new species from the Latindia class. The scientists published the results of their study in the Chinese Journal of Molecular Biology.
