Iran understands Turkey's security concerns emanating from Syria, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said, reminding Ankara that military operations will not solve the problems, but will complicate the situation.

Iran's foreign minister and his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu discussed escalating tensions and military clashes along Turkey and Syria's shared borders.

Amir-Abdollahian said Iran understands Turkey's security concerns and the need to address them, noting that resolving the problems requires continued security talks between Ankara and Damascus.

He stressed that Turkey's ground military operation in Syria would not only fail to resolve the problems, but would also cause damage and further complicate the situation. He also expressed Iran's readiness to provide any assistance for the political settlement of problems between Turkey and Syria.

For his part, Cavusoglu outlined current events and Turkey's position on these issues. He also praised Iran's constructive role and stressed the need for continued contacts.
