The year 2023 was not clear for Armenian-Russian relations, which largely reflects the complicated situation we are going through. This was stated by Russian ambassador Sergey Kopyrkin in an interview given to the Public Television of Armenia.

"If we try to compare what is happening in our [bilateral] relations now with everything that happened in the past years, it can be said that it should be considered with understanding.

“When it comes to bad relations, misunderstanding, of course, all that was very unusual and pointless. I am of the opinion that one should understand what is happening now. What is at the core of our relations is human contact, commonalities. I am sure there are commonalities from the point of view of strategic interests as well. The fact that we [i.e. Armenia and Russia] participate in some integration unions proves once again that there are fundamental factors that are quite a good basis for our relations.

“In terms of our relations, the passing year can be assessed ambiguously; on the other hand, not only from a negative point of view. For sure, the positive prospect needs to be maintained," said the Russian diplomat.
