Armenia’s Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian paid an official visit to Kuwait on Monday, and he was received by Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Emir of Kuwait.

Nalbandian conveyed Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s greetings and well wishes to the head of Kuwait and reconfirmed the invitation extended to the Emir to visit Armenia. Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah informed that he delightfully accepts the invitation.  

During the meeting, they discussed the implementation of the arrangements that were made during the Armenian President’s state visit paid to Kuwait in 2009. It was noted that the two countries have opened embassies in one another’s capital cities and an intergovernmental commission is functioning. Also, the Emir of Kuwait expressed words of praise to the Armenians living in his country while Nalbandian extended his gratitude to the Kuwaiti authorities for their caring attitude toward the Armenian community.  

During Armenian FM’s meeting with Kuwait’s PM Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, they discussed the bilateral trade and economic cooperation, reflected on the preparations for the next session of the intergovernmental commission, and exchanged views on holding a business forum.   

Also, Edward Nalbandian met with Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, the Deputy PM and FM of Kuwait. They reflected on the implementation of the arrangements that were made by the leaders of Armenia and Kuwait, the legal and contractual framework, the trade and economic cooperation, and the avenues for developing ties. In addition, the two FMs signed the agreement on lifting visa requirements for Armenian and Kuwaiti citizens who hold diplomatic passports. Also, Nalbandian invited Sabah Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah to Armenia.         

During Edward Nalbandian’s talk with Nayef Falah Al- Hajraf, Kuwait’s Minister of Finance and Co-Chair of the Armenian-Kuwaiti Intergovernmental Commission, they reflected on the results of the commission’s inaugural session, which was held last year in Armenia’s capital city Yerevan, and the preparations for its next session, which is scheduled to be held next year in Kuwait.  

In addition, Armenia’s FM visited the Kuwait Fund For Arab Economic Development (KFAED) and met with KFAED Director General Abdel Wahab Al-Bader. They discussed the opportunities for conducting KFAED programs in Armenia.    

While in Kuwait, Edward Nalbandian also got together with representatives of the country’s Armenian community.
