During Sunday’s services, all Armenian Evangelical Churches around the world extended special prayers for Syria’s predominantly Armenian-populated town of Kessab and its inhabitants.

Brother Nerses Gedigian, Secretary of the Union of the Armenian Evangelical Churches of Bulgaria, told the aforementioned to Kantegh (Lantern) Ararat.

The pastors of the Armenian Evangelical Churches and their representatives made similar initiatives around the world, Brother Gedigian also informed.

As reported earlier, in the early morning on March 21, armed militants from the Jabhat al-Nusra  terrorist group infiltrated from Turkey into northern Syria’s Latakia Governorate, which is predominantly inhabited by Armenians and Alawites. At present, there is a fierce fight between the Syrian government army and the militants. Numerous displaced Kessab Armenians are currently sheltered in Latakia, Syria. On Sunday, Turkey provided direct assistance to the terrorists by downing a Syrian military plane. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad promised Catholicos Aram I of the Great House of Cilicia of the Armenian Apostolic Church to do everything possible to protect the Armenians in Kessab.
