YEREVAN. – The Police of Armenia are working towards ruling out the likelihood of forcible interrogation of suspects.   

Deputy Chief of Police Vardan Yeghiazaryan stated the abovementioned at Tuesday’s parliamentary hearings.

As per Yeghiazaryan, in the ten months of the current year, a total of 1,571 cases were recorded when police officers had misused their power. As a result, 845 were fined,  61 officers were discharged, and ten others were indicted. 

The deputy police chief added that they collaborate with NGOs and international organizations. He also noted that the tie between the Armenian society and the Police is getting stronger every year.  

In addition, Yeghiazaryan assured that the Police of Armenia work transparently. In this context, he pointed to the active work by the Police website and the fact that it was handed the Golden Key Award for the freedom of information.
