The European Commission has assigned €2m to Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan for preparatory work to cope with natural disasters.
The funds will be provided by means of the humanitarian aid section, with Karel De Gucht, European Commissioner for Development & Humanitarian Aid, being in charge. The project provides for coordination of national and regional agencies’ activities, training courses and creation of warning systems.
The Commission-funded humanitarian projects will be implemented by special UN agencies and by the International Committee of the Red Cross.
