The Lithuanian Seimas (Parliament) MPs’ initiative to form a Lithuania-Artsakh (Karabakh) Friendship Group cannot pioneer the international recognition of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), Alexander Skakov, a political scientist at the Eastern Studies Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, told Armenian News-NEWS.am

In his words, even though such initiatives likewise were launched in recent times in Australia and in several other countries, there cannot be any talk about NKR’s recognition.

“Unless Armenia recognizes Nagorno-Karabakh, unless its allies [likewise] do this, it is not worth talking about the international recognition of Karabakh,” the political analyst said, and added that Armenia should take the first step in the matter of Karabakh’s recognition.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, nine Lithuanian Seimas members have come up with an initiative to form a Lithuania-Artsakh Friendship Group.
