During his recent trip to Lithuania, Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) Foreign Minister Karen Mirzoyan gave an interview to 15min.lt, and spoke about the current phase of, and the prospects for, the settlement of the Karabakh conflict.   

He noted that this matter was resolved for the people of Karabakh a long time ago, but it is necessary to find a civilized means for a peaceful coexistence between the people of Karabakh and the Azerbaijanis.

Mirzoyan recorded that even though the OSCE Minsk Group-brokered peace talks are continuing since 1992, a working settlement mechanism has not been found to this day and, first and foremost, because of Azerbaijan’s deconstructive position. He said so long as the Azerbaijani officials continue to make bellicose statements, there is still a chance that the war could resume.      

“Azerbaijan arms itself and forms, among its society, the image of an Armenian enemy,” the NKR FM noted. 

He also stressed that the Minsk Group format provides all opportunities for conducting talks, but results can be achieved solely in the case of NKR’s full participation in all phases of the negotiations.     

Mirzoyan noted that, in the modern world, the precept of self-determination of peoples is brought forth more often in terms of resolving conflicts. 

Also, the NKR FM expressed confidence that Karabakh ultimately will become a full member of the international community.
