YEREVAN. – At the invitation of Greek FM Dimitris Avramopoulos, Armenia’s Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian arrived in Greece Friday on an official visit.

Nalbandian was received by the Greek President, Karolos Papoulias, Armenian MFA press service informs.    

The Greek leader said his people possess the warmest feelings toward the Armenian people and Armenia, he is glad that bilateral political relations are at a high level, and added that measures need to be taken to raise economic cooperation to the same level.   

In his turn, Nalbandian conveyed Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s greetings and well wishes, and noted that Sargsyan fondly remembers his visit to Greece that was paid in 2011, and awaits the Greek president’s return visit to Armenia.     

The interlocutors noted that the recent years became significant in terms of more intensive contacts between Armenia and Greece, and a new impetus was given to bilateral relations. They shared the view that Armenian-Greek ties enjoy a privileged nature.       

They reflected on Armenia-EU cooperation, the ongoing Armenia-EU Association Agreement talks, the visa relaxation process, and the continuing talks with respect to signing an agreement on the creation of the Armenia-EU Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area. 

Nalbandian and Papoulias also reflected on stimulating cooperation in the domains of education and culture. 

The discussion agenda also included the efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue and, in this context, Nalbandian reaffirmed Armenia’s position of supporting Cyprus.

In addition, Armenia’s FM briefed the Greek leader on the latest developments in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process.  

President Karolos Papoulias asked Edward Nalbandian to convey his respect and greetings to Armenia’s leader, and to inform that, accepting the Armenian president’s invitation, he gladly will pay a visit to Armenia.
