YEREVAN. – Aside from Armenia, the European Union is conducting Association Agreement talks with several other countries. Gunnar Wiegand, the European Union Chief Negotiator for the ongoing Armenia-EU Association Agreement talks, stated this during a press conference on Wednesday. 

He noted that Ukraine is ahead of Armenia in this respect, and that the text of the respective agreement with Ukraine is expected to be signed by the year’s end. At the same time, he stressed that the track-record of negotiations with Armenia is marvelous. 

Wiegand also informed that along with Armenia, similar talks are held likewise with Moldova and Georgia, and that it will be possible to sign agreements with these three countries by the end of the year.        

“Talks are also in progress with Azerbaijan, but there is less progress here. [But] it does not refer to the creation of a free trade area because this country is not a World Trade Organization member,” the EU Chief Negotiator said.    

Gunnar Wiegand also informed that the text of the Armenia-EU Association Agreement needs to be translated into 23 languages, and this will take several months.
