YEREVAN. - Armenian authorities refuse to comment on the results of the polls conducted by the Armenian branch of GALLUP International Association.

In a conversation with Armenian News - NEWS.am, ruling Republican Party of Armenia MP Eduard Sharmazanov said that he essentially refuses to comment on polls and stressed that all questions on citizens’ electoral choices will be answered during the elections to Yerevan City Council of Elders (city parliament) on May 5. Sharmazanov is the head of the election headquarters of Yerevan City Mayor Taron Margaryan, who leads the proportional list of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia in the elections to the Yerevan City Council of Elders.

According to the poll conducted by the Armenian branch of GALLUP International, at the forthcoming elections to the Yerevan City Council of Elders, 41.50% of the Yerevan citizens would vote for the ruling Republican Party of Armenia, 14.5% for the Prosperous Armenia Party, 7.9%  for “Hello, Yerevan!” bloc, 3.7% for “Rule of Law” Party, 3.1% for the ARF, 2.9% for the Armenian National Congress, 0.3% for “Arakelutyun” bloc, and 26.1% were undecided.

“I believe that sociology is a serious science, but I would let sociologists to comment on that,” Sharmazanov said.

According to him, only a good, cohesive work can provide the necessary votes.

As for the claims of the opponents of ruling party, who state that the polls were biased and “ordered” by the Republican Party of Armenia, Sharmazanov said that he prefer not to comment on that claim as well.

“On May 5 we will see the reality. Our candidate carries out a successful campaign,” he said.

Referring to the fact that Taron Margaryan’s personal rating is higher than that of the Republican Party, Eduard Sharmazanov noted that “in the presidential elections we also had similar situation.”
