YEREVAN. – It is not important how many people have gathered today; the important thing is our common objective, the fight for people’s rights.

Armenia’s ex-presidential candidate, opposition Heritage Party Chairman, former FM Raffi Hovannisian stated the aforesaid during Wednesday’s rally which is held at capital city Yerevan’s Liberty Square.

“The important thing is that five million Armenians wish to see a New Yerevan, a New Armenia. Today, [and] pursuant to the second paragraph of the Constitution, we have an unremitting opportunity to fight for our rights,” Hovannisian stated.

He reassured those who had gathered that a situation will be created in Yerevan, following Sunday’s municipal council election, when it would be impossible to imagine without the Heritage Party-led “Barev [Hello], Yerevan” bloc, which is running in Sunday’s Yerevan Council vote.

“If free and fair elections are held, the bloc will come in first [in the election],” Heritage’s leader announced.

Hovannisian also noted that the Yerevan residents themselves must make their choice on Sunday, but they also should assume the responsibility for the situation.

At the same time, he announced that he plans to surprise the authorities on Sunday.

“The [present-day] authorities will not stay at 26 Baghramyan Avenue [where the Presidential Residence is located] in the next five years, and [serving Mayor] Taron Margaryan will not be the capital city’s mayor after [Sunday,] May 5,” Raffi Hovannisian promised.
