make preferableYEREVAN. – Davit—for boys—and Nare—for girls—were the names that were most often given to the babies that were born in Armenia last year.
In line with the National Statistical Service data, a total of 22,700 boys were born in Armenia in 2012, and 1,313 of them were named Davit; 1,144, Narek; and 808, Gor. Hayk, Alex, Eric, Tigran, Arman, Samvel, and Arthur also made up the top ten names the baby boys were given.
To note, the top three mostly-given names for boys did not change as compared to 2011.
In the case of the girls, however, there were changes in the top mostly-given names.
In 2011, the name that was mostly given to newly-born girls in Armenia was Milena, but Nare took first place in 2012. A total of 19,700 girls were born in Armenia in 2012, and 967 of them were given this name. Milena is second, with 852, and Mari is third, with 772. Mane, Ani, Anahit, Elen, Anna, Mariam, and Maria also made up the top ten names the baby girls were given in Armenia last year.
