YEREVAN. – It is hardly realistic to hope that the movement launched by Yerevan residents against transport fare hike will be successful, economist said.

Former MP, economist Vardan Bostanjyan believes demonstrations and protest actions will hardly lead to the return of previous prices.

“I totally agree. In Armenia anyone who is allowed to do business, longs for super profits. But much depends on the essence and extent of the protest. The movement must be effective, I have not seen such movements in Armenia yet,” he told reporters on Monday.

Public transport fares in Armenia’s capital rose by 1.5-2 times starting from July 20. The bus fare made AMD 100 instead of 50, while minibus fare increased from AMD 100 to 150.
