YEREVAN. – Although households in Armenia consume only 35 percent of gas supplied to the country, they account for about 60 percent of the costs and significant investment, spokesperson for ArmRusGasprom said.

The economists suggest citizens should come together in consumer cooperatives, which will consume more than 10 thousand cubic meters per month and pay for gas at a reduced rate.

“It is surprising that such calculations are made by people who are not taking into account the studies and methodology differences in tariffs for those consuming less and more than 10 thousand cubic meters per month. By the way, this distinction is applied in many world countries,” Shushan Sardaryan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

She noted that large consumers mainly use pipelines of high and medium pressure. The maintenance costs of these systems are low in comparison with the low-pressure systems that serve households.
