YEREVAN. – A traffic accident occurred on Meghri-Kapan Highway in Armenia’s Syunik Region, in the vicinity of Shishkert village. 

The respective call was received on Wednesday at 1:11am, informing that a person was affected and rescuers were needed, informs the news service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

A fire and rescue squad was dispatched to the scene.

It was found out that a truck had gone off road and fallen into the nearby canyon, 70 meters deep. As a result, the truck driver, Manvel Mkhitaryan (born in 1959), had died on the spot.  

The fire and rescue squad removed the body from the vehicle and cut the power of the truck.  

Police officers and ambulance staff likewise were at the scene of the incident.
