YEREVAN. – The movement that began in capital city Yerevan in recent days—and against the rise in the public transport fare—is a spontaneous movement that does not have a political party nature.

Armenia’s Prime Minister Tigran stated the abovementioned before Thursday’s Cabinet session.

“The movement has a societal nature. The youth are guided by the motives of solidarity, [and] justice. Civil society forces are forming in Armenia, and we must take this into account when making state decisions,” Sargsyan added.  

In his words, however, the autonomy and independence of local self-government likewise have great importance in terms of democracy and state-building. And a change in the city’s public transport fare is under the jurisdiction of Yerevan Municipality.

“But we must keep our focus on the matter,” Sargsyan said. 

He also called upon the Government members to make decisions concerning the general public solely after discussing the matters with the public.
