YEREVAN. – I hope the actors, who are taking part in the “Free Car” action are not acting, Armenia’s Justice Minister Hrayr Tovmasyan told news reporters on Thursday.  

The minister informed that he rarely uses public transportation and he prefers to walk. 

“It was not easy for the [capital city Yerevan] mayor to make a decision on raising the [public transport] fares. If the fare is increased so that some people may get rich, any member of the Government is against this,” the justice minister said.  

Tovmasyan added, however, that the situation of public transportation in Yerevan is much worse than the other infrastructures. 

As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, the Yerevan Municipality decision to increase the public transport fares in the city has brought about outbursts, several groups are formed in the social networks, and the initiatives are staging protests and distributing pamphlets against this decision. In addition, the “Free Car” initiative is launched, along the lines of which Armenia’s numerous well-known personalities, MPs, and ordinary residents provide—with their own vehicles—free transportation to the people.
