YEREVAN. – Armenia’s opposition Heritage Party will invite a rally at Liberty Square, in capital city Yerevan, on August 23; that is, on the day of the Declaration of Independence of Armenia.

Heritage’s vice-chairman Armen Martirosyan noted the aforesaid during a press conference on Friday.

In his words, ever since 1992, there were people who were saying that Heritage’s chairman, ex-presidential candidate and former FM Raffi Hovannisian is leaving politics, but time proves otherwise. And the recent presidential elections, as per Martirosyan, showed that Hovannisian is the president-elect of the people.

He added that Heritage was never passive so that it may get active, and therefore they are continuing their battle with a new vigor.

Martirosyan noted that there will be changes in Armenia’s political party system, and he pointed to changing from a majority to proportional election system.

“We have said from the very beginning that this is a long-term battle,” Martirosyan added.

He also noted that the present-day situation in Armenia needs to be surmounted with joint efforts. Otherwise, everyone will move his own interest forward.
