YEREVAN. – The salaries of Armenia’s university professors shall not be raised on the account of the students.  

Chairwoman Hripsime Margaryan of the Public Council Subcommittee on Youth Affairs stated the aforesaid during a press conference on Saturday.

She had questioned, together with a group of young activists, the legitimacy of the decision to increase the tuition fees for the first-year students at five state-run universities in the country.     

“They told us that social packages will be provided to the students of disadvantaged families. But very few people would be willing to declare that the financial conditions in their family is severe,” Margaryan noted.     

The need to raise the low wages of the university lecturers is noted as a reason to increase the tuition fees. 

“We understand that this is extremely necessary, but not on the account of the students,” stated the Public Council member. 

In Hripsime Margaryan’s words, the students are preparing to analyze the reports of these five universities, to find out the reason for the decision to raise the tuition fees.
