YEREVAN. – Most divorces in Armenia fall on long-term marriages, head of demography and population department said.
Around 29 percent of all divorces fall on the marriages lasting 20 years and more, Karine Kuyumjyan said during the Wednesday press conference. Twenty percent of divorces occur during the marriages lasting from one to four years, 18 percent during the marriages lasting 9-15 years, and 15 percent of couples get divorced after being married for 10-14 years.
Psychologist, Professor Sedrak Sedrakyan pointed at several crisis periods which become a turning point for marriage.
“One of them comes after the first five years. The other, unfortunately, falls exactly on the last years of their marriage, when the couple starts getting tired of each other,” he said.
Crises in marriage, Sedrakyan added, is not always associated with financial problems and infidelity.
“My patients often conceal the real reasons for their difficulties in communication. And in fact, it could be a mismatch of expectations from each other, from the roles that husband and wife assumed in family life. Therefore, turning to a psychologist in such cases is not only possible, but necessary option,” he concluded.
