YEREVAN. – Police officers mainly displayed tolerance and avoided using violence during the recent civic actions in Yerevan, U.S. Ambassador said.
U.S. Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern met with Chief of Police Vladimir Gasparyan on Tuesday.
Ambassador Heffern asked about the incidents involving certain civic activists, adding he is aware of the police statements. In response, Vladimir Gasparyan presented police position on the incidents, informed about criminal proceedings in connection with these cases, and spoke about the measures taken to prevent such cases.
John Heffern said he is hopeful police would realize its mission aimed at human rights protection and maintaining of public order.
Chief of Police assured that the police continue to work in an open and transparent manner and is committed to completion of the reforms.
During the meeting, the sides discussed issues of mutual interest.
