YEREVAN. – Armenian entrepreneurs are displeased with the customs service, USAID EDMC business environment improvement team leader John Downes said.

This was proved by the results of the survey conducted as a part of USAID’s Enterprise Development and Market Competitiveness (EDMC) program.

John Downes said his team is trying to encourage the development of small and medium enterprises in Armenia. Downes noted that existence of transparent, fair and efficient customs system is playing an important role for the Armenian business.

He also noted that a study and survey of Armenian entrepreneurs revealed that problems to which they point are related to the Customs Service.

As regards the Customs Union, the USAID representative said that their program is aimed at forming such a system in Armenia, which would allow the country to become a part of international trade, not limited to certain countries of the CIS and the EU.
