YEREVAN. – Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on Saturday received a delegation led by Liliam Kechichián, Minister of Tourism and Sport of Uruguay, who likewise is Armenian.

The President welcomed the Uruguayan government’s Armenian minister to Armenia, and noted that it is a great pride to see the Armenians living abroad in such high positions.

The interlocutors discussed the avenues for further strengthening of relations and developing of cooperation between Armenia and Uruguay.

Sargsyan also expressed the hope that Kechichián’s long track-record in the tourism sector, and the information she obtained about Armenia’s tourism potential during her visit to the country, will contribute to the development of collaboration between the two countries in this sector, too.

The parties recorded that, ever since Armenia’s independence in 1991, the long geographical distance has not been an obstacle for the development of Armenian-Uruguayan relations.

The interlocutors also underscored the need to broaden the legal and contractual framework toward the promotion of cooperation.
