YEREVAN. – The Office of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia joins the people and the four National Assembly (NA) factions that are fighting against the mandatory cumulative pension law, which will come into force on January 1, 2014.  

Aram Vardevanyan, Head of the Legal Department of the ombudsman’s office, on Wednesday told the aforementioned to the demonstrators who had marched from across the NA building to the Office of the Human Rights Defender.  

Vardevanyan informed that the ombudsman’s office stands ready to join the four NA factions to discuss the next courses of action and to petition to the Constitutional Court. 

The protestors thanked the Office of the Human Rights Defender, and noted that this is yet another triumph in their struggle.   

At present, the demonstrators are marching toward the Government building.

To note, the four non-coalition NA factions on Wednesday motioned to put off for one year the application of the mandatory component of the Law on Cumulative Pension. But the motion was rejected by the efforts of the two coalition factions that form the majority at the parliament, and by a vote of 54 “against” and 46 “for.”
