YEREVAN. – French and German operators will continue water supply in Armenia until mid- 2016. The relevant decision was made during the Armenian government’s meeting on Thursday.
The decision concerns four companies involved in water supply outside the capital. These companies are Armenian Water Sewerage Company (a subsidiary of the French Saur SA S) operating in seven regions of Armenia, as well as companies Shirak Water Pipeline, Lori Water Pipeline and Nor Akunk operating in Shirak, Lori and Armavir regions respectively. The last three companies are run by a consortium of German MVV Decon GmbH, MVV Energi AG and Armenian AEG Service. Concession of these companies expires at the end of 2013.
Over the next 2.5 years the government expects from operators improvement of the efficiency of water management, optimization of the coverage (now operators do not serve 560 settlements out of about 920 throughout the country). It is also planned to develop a strategy for managing water runoff, reducing the illegal use of water and improvement of water tariff policy.
By mid- 2016 the concession of water operator working in Yerevan and surrounding settlements
”Yerevan- Jur” (a subsidiary of the French company Veolie Generale Des Eaux) will be over.
