YEREVAN. – Armenia will become an aging country between 2017 and 2018, Haykakan Zhamanak daily reports.

“This is inevitable, said Assistant Representative Garik Hayrapetyan of the UNFPA [i.e., the United Nations Population Fund] Armenia Office.

“In an interview with our reporter Hayrapetyan explained that countries are considered aging if 14 percent or more of the population are people that are 65 years of age and older.

“The number of the elderly in Armenia will make up 33 percent already by 2050,” Haykakan Zhamanak writes.
